Difference ora.asm resource between RAC and Single installations

Today i’ve stumbled on interesting difference between 11.2 single and RAC installations. With RAC installation you can’t change some parameters on ora.asm resource through srvctl.

# crsctl status resource ora.asm -p|egrep -i "spfile|diskstring|nls"
NLS_LANG=
$ srvctl config asm
ASM home: /opt/oracle/product/grid/11.2.0.4
ASM listener: LISTENER
$ srvctl modify asm -h

Modifies the configuration for ASM.

Usage: srvctl modify asm [-l <lsnr_name>]
    -l <lsnr_name>           Listener name
    -h
$ srvctl modify asm -d 'ORCL:*'
PRKO-2002 : Invalid command line option: -d

But the same version Cluster/RDBMS version, in my case 11.2.0.4, with Single installation you can change those parameter.

# crsctl status resource ora.asm -p|egrep -i "spfile|diskstring|nls"
ASM_DISKSTRING=/dev/sd[cd]2,/dev/sd[ab]3
NLS_LANG=
SPFILE=+DG/asm/asmparameterfile/registry.253.822850799
$ srvctl modify asm -h

Modifies the configuration for ASM.

Usage: srvctl modify asm [-l <lsnr_name>] [-p <spfile>] [-d <asm_diskstring>]
    -l <lsnr_name>           Listener name
    -p <spfile> Server parameter file path
    -d <asm_diskstring> ASM diskgroup discovery string
    -h                       Print usage
$ srvctl config asm
ASM home: /opt/oracle/product/grid112033
ASM listener: LISTENER
Spfile: +DG/asm/asmparameterfile/registry.253.822850799
ASM diskgroup discovery string: /dev/sd[cd]2,/dev/sd[ab]3

I need spend some time to investigate this situation. And if i got enough time i’ll share you 🙂
